Top 25 Georgia High School Girls Basketball Teams: Classes 1A-DII, 1A-DI, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A

Updated 3/12/2024 – Final

Here is the final update to the ITG Next Georgia high school girls basketball Top 25 rankings for the 2023-24 season.

Grayson completed one of the most remarkable accomplishments in the history of the GHSA in any sport, achieving a perfect 32-0 season and winning the Class 7A girls basketball state championship. It was a clean sweep for the Grayson basketball program this year, as the boys also won their Class 7A state title.

Most of the Final Four games went according to script with one major exception: North Forsyth, who was previously ranked No. 2 and considered by many to be the second-best team in the state behind Grayson, was upset by Marist in the Class 6A title game.

North Forsyth was one of five teams seeking their school’s first ever girls basketball state championship. In addition to North Forsyth, the other teams that fell in their bids to bring home that first state title were Hardaway, North Paulding, and Midtown. Only Grayson achieved that particular feat this season.

“It was such a gratifying experience because the girls talked about wanting to accomplish the very things we did,” said Tim Slater, Grayson girls basketball head coach. “So to have young people set a goal, work towards it, and then accomplish it was very special.”

Slater said that several players from this year’s squad will return next season.

“We have Tatum Brown, who was such a steady and efficient force for us this season, returning from the starting lineup, as well as Tamera Rudolph, Zoie Lofton, (and) Jayla Bennett, who all came off the bench for us this year,” Slater said. “And add to that Jahmaica Clegg, who is one of the best athletes I have ever coached, and I think with these players returning we will be in the mix next year.”

Updated 2/16/2024

With the end of the regular season, teams are now wrapping up their respective region tournaments, and most of the teams in our Georgia high school girls basketball rankings have proven why they belong among the 25 best teams in the state.

The toast of Georgia remains the Grayson Rams, who are proving to be hard to handle both through the regular season and now into their region tourney where they easily captured the Region 4-7A championship with a 25-point win over Newton in the title game.

Most of our ranked teams have also captured their region championships or were preparing to play in their region championship games at the time of this poll’s compilation.

The most notable upset came in the Region 2-7A tournament in which previously ranked No. 5 Carrollton lost to unranked Campbell. With that upset, the Trojans drop to No. 8, and the Spartans debut at No. 17 in this week’s poll.

Thomson is another ranked team that was upset in their region tournament. Previously ranked No. 17, Thomson falls out of the rankings after falling to an unranked Butler team. Butler now holds the No. 23 spot.

  1. Grayson (7A) E
  2. North Forsyth (6A) E

Updated 2/2/2024

Our updated Georgia high school girls basketball rankings for the 2023-24 season keeps Tim Slater’s Grayson team occupying the same spot as they have since day one, which is at the very top at No. 1. They are 22-0 at the time of this rankings update and are plowing through opponents with stunning ease. They have one week remaining in the regular season before the playoffs begin.

While the Lady Rams have been dominant with their undefeated season, several other teams are also playing really well, including the undefeated North Forsyth Lady Raiders from Class 6A. They remain right behind Grayson, giving our top two teams a collective 44-0 record.

Union Grove stays in the same spot as in our previous poll, holding at No. 3. They have lost just one game so far with 22 wins.

Carrollton moves into the top five right behind the Buford Lady Wolves of coach Gene Durden. After dropping their opening game of the season, Buford is 20-1, which includes a six-game winning streak heading into the final week of the regular season.

The poll also welcomes newcomers Tift County and Jefferson to this week’s Top 25.

Updated 1/21/2024

Our updated 2023-24 Georgia high school girls basketball rankings have some changes, but not at the very top. No, that No. 1 spot still belongs to the undefeated Grayson Girls, who have held our top ranking from the start and are 17-0 at the time of this writing, having run through their opponents like a hot knife through butter.

That includes a 27-point rout of the Panther Creek Catamounts from Cary, NC. At the time of their game with the Grayson Lady Rams, Panther Creek was the No. 1-ranked team in 4A in North Carolina, and the defending state champion, but Grayson flexed its defensive muscle in the contest, holding the then 8-1 Catamounts to just four points in the opening quarter and building a 12-point halftime lead on the way to a dominant win.

While Grayson stays at No. 1, much of our Top-25 has a different look than our previous update. That includes a change at the No. 2 spot, with North Forsyth jumping up six spots to take over that ranking. Meanwhile, Union Grove maintains its No. 3 ranking. Rounding out the Top-5 are Hebron Christian, once again holding down the No. 4 spot, and the Buford Lady Wolves at No. 5 spot. Carrollton’s Lady Trojans make this week’s biggest jump, rising from No. 20 to No. 9. Montgomery County, Wilcox County, and Creekside all enter the Top-25 after being previously unranked.

  1. Grayson (7A) E
  2. North Forsyth (6A) +6
  3. Union Grove (5A) E
  4. Hebron Christian (3A) +1
  5. Buford (7A) +7
  6. St. Francis (1A-DI) -1

Updated 12/26/2023

Welcome to our second 2023-24 Georgia high school girls basketball Top-25. In our previous installment, we had Grayson as our top-ranked team, and since then, the Lady Rams have done nothing to change our minds. They are undefeated, having won their first seven games of the season.

Second-ranked Norcross was right behind Grayson in the opening poll, but a loss to a good McEachern team in Week 2 has dropped the Lady Blue Devils out of that spot. Speaking of McEachern, the Lady Indians have already played one of the most daunting schedules of the year, including games against Union Grove and Hebron Christian. Both of those were losses, but that’s nothing to be ashamed of, as those are two very good teams.

As I said last week, there is a lot of basketball left to play, so don’t get too excited or too upset if your team isn’t where you’d like to see them at this early stage of the season.

  1. Grayson (7A) E
  2. McEachern  (7A) +9
  3. Union Grove (5A) +1
