Key Losses
Arguably the most significant loss for Episcopal is two-way standout Ershod Jasey II, who led the Eagles with 841 yards and 12 touchdowns rushing, and recorded 63 tackles as a linebacker. Parker Chappell, who ranked second for the Eagles in receiving, and running back Kirk Reed are also big losses.
On defense, Elijah Franklin will be missed after leading Episcopal in tackles and sacks a year ago. Jake Barker is also a name who has moved on, as have Bogan Wyatt, Charles Medure, Ellis Pajcic, and Carter Ladd, who transferred to Atlantic Coast.
Who’s Back
Two key returnees on offense are quarterback Joseph Wiesner and Corey Scott, who led Episcopal with 866 yards and five touchdowns receiving last season. Calvin Jasey and Cole Pennington are also key players, along with rising sophomore running back Lawson Perry.
Defensively, Scott and Jasey likely will play both ways again, and rising senior River Penland is a name to watch for. He and Will Monroe could play key roles for the Eagles this season.
What to Expect
The Eagles made a Class 3A playoff appearance a year ago, falling in the first round to Florida High. Tasked with replacing a number of key names from that team, Episcopal is counting on breakout seasons from some less-experienced players; leading names such as Wiesner, Scott, and Jasey need to take the next step as well.
Episcopal is potentially a surprise team in 2M-District 2 this season, with their success largely depending on those players raising their games to the next level. If they do, the Eagles will be in contention for a playoff spot.
