We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Trinity Christian football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.
2021 Stats
- Overall Record: 10-4
- Points Scored: 418
- Points Allowed: 289
Key Losses
Undoubtedly the biggest losses for Trinity Christian come on defense, in particular the secondary with the duo of Cam Miller and Keaton Thomas. Two of the state’s top defensive back recruits, both Miller and Thomas were prominent tacklers for the Conquerors last season, with Thomas leading Trinity Christian with seven interceptions.
Leading tackler Caden Morrell also is a significant loss for the Trinity Christian defense, as are Johnathan Goddard, Thomas Fryer, Tito Butler, and Deon Briggs. The Conquerors lose a few key names on offense as well, including their top three receivers in Fred Highsmith, Darias James, and Xander Ross.
Who’s Back
A majority of Trinity Christian’s top returning names come on the offensive side of the ball, headlined by one of the state’s top running backs, Treyaun Webb, a four-star prospect and 1,000-yard rusher a year ago. The Conquerors’ offense returns another 1,000-yard rusher in rising junior Darnell Rogers, as well as one of the state’s top 2025 quarterbacks in rising sophomore Colin Hurley.
On defense, linebacker Cameron Anderson is arguably Trinity Christian’s biggest returning name. The rising junior, one of the Conquerors’ leading tacklers a year ago, will team up with Bryce Kazmierczak, who transferred from Baker County. Dorean Cleveland is one to watch on Trinity Christian’s defensive front, while Jaykob Jones, Tyler Jackson, and Tre Stewart all return in what should be a strong secondary.
What to Expect
Trinity Christian, the defending Class 2A state champions, returns numerous key names from last season’s team, and should have a strong chance to bring another state title to Jacksonville in 2022. A big reason will be the Webb/Rogers duo and quarterback Colin Hurley forming one of the state’s top backfields, and the defense, with its strong secondary, will be an asset as well.
Overall, expect Trinity Christian to be one of the top teams in Class 1M this season, and for the Conquerors to be well-positioned to win back-to-back-to-back titles across three different classifications.
Prediction
Trinity Christian will win at least nine games and be a state title contender.
