Top SEC Basketball Commits and Their 2021 High School Seasons

Being a top recruit means that you have dominated high school basketball and are one of the best players in the country. These recruits all have one thing in common, however; they were all named MaxPreps Players of the Year in their respective states. Let’s look at the top Players of the Year who are SEC basketball commits and see how their 2021 high school seasons went.

Alabama – JD Davison (Calhoun, AL)

The 5-star point guard and Top 10 national player in the Class of 2021 ended his high school career as arguably the top player in Alabama high school basketball history. Davison averaged 32.4 PPG, 10.8 RPG, 4.9 APG and 4.6 SPG for Calhoun High this season where he won numerous honors including Alabama Mr. Basketball for the second consecutive season, becoming only the third player ever in Alabama to win the award two times. Davison will go to Alabama where he should be one of the top players in college basketball next season.

Auburn – Jabari Smith (Sandy Creek, GA)

The Top 5 overall player in the Class of 2021 dominated for Sandy Creek in 2020-21. Smith averaged 23.4 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 3.2 APG and 2.5 BPG on 56% shooting from the field helping to lead the Patriots to the 3A state title game. Smith ends his high school career scoring over 1,900 points, and now heads to Auburn where he should be one of the top players in the SEC next season.

Kentucky – Bryce Hopkins (Fenwick, IL)

The Kentucky signee averaged 25 PPG and 13 RPG during his senior season where he was named as the Chicago Catholic League Player of the Year. The 4-star prospect helped lead the Friars to a 13-3 record, and goes to Kentucky to be a prominent player on a talented Wildcats team.

Tennessee – Kennedy Chandler (Sunrise Christian Academy, KS)

Arguably one of the most impressive players this past high school basketball season was 5-star Tennessee signee Kennedy Chandler. Chandler averaged 14.8 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 6.4 APG and 3.3 SPG for Sunrise Christian while also shooting 57% from the field, 50% from 3-point range and 94% from the free-throw line. Chandler also led Sunrise Christian to the Geico Nationals title game. Chandler should not only be one of the best guards in the SEC next season, but the country as well.

Ole Miss – Daeshun Ruffin (Callaway, MS)

Ruffin ended a storied high school career this season by averaging 33.1 PPG, 3.3 RPG and 2.8 SPG leading Callaway to the state quarterfinals. Ruffin ends his high school career with 2,337 career points, and a career average of 25.4 PPG before heading to Oxford.

Kentucky – Daimion Collins (Atlanta, TX)

The 5-star forward was dominant this season for the Rabbits as he averaged 35.2 PPG, 14.4 RPG, seven APG and 6.2 BPG. Collins should be one of the top big men in the SEC at Kentucky next season, and emerge as a top NBA Draft prospect.
