Senior Highlight: Q&A With Katie Kistler

Katie Kistler will be attending the University of Florida in the fall for their softball program. The Oakleaf High School graduate is excited about starting her legacy and furthering her education. Even though she was not able to finish her senior softball season, Kistler is in good spirits that her high school team will continue to succeed in the seasons to come. We were able to talk on what’s to come as she begins her journey as a Gator. 

Tyrah: How excited are you to attend the University of Florida?

Katie: I am beyond excited to attend the University of Florida. I cannot wait to see what my future holds there and can’t wait to get there to work. 

T: What made you decide to sign and become a Gator? 

K: The biggest thing in my decision to sign to UF was it’s close to home, but Florida has always been my dream school, and a lot of thoughts went into picking where I wanted to go. I couldn’t be happier with my decision in becoming a Gator. 

T: How do you plan to start your legacy at UF?

K: I plan to start my legacy by going there and working as hard as I can. I’m going to stay focused and determined to reach my goals. 

T: Who are some other softball players you look up to? 

K: One softball player I look up to is my sister. Although she might not play anymore, she has always been the biggest role model to me growing up. I’ve always looked up to her and wanted to be just as good as, if not better, than her. 

T: What advice would you give to upcoming senior athletes? 

K: Some advice I would give to upcoming senior athletes is to take in every game, every practice, and every memory you have with your team. You never know when it will be your last. Really soak in as much as you can in your last year. You’ll really miss it. 

T: At Oakleaf, what do you want to be remembered for? 

K: At Oakleaf, I want to be remembered as the person who is always uplifting and in a good mood, somebody who is always laughing and smiling, whether it’s on the field or in the classroom. I want them to know me as somebody who is always happy. I want them to see me as a hardworking person also. Having a good time and working hard at the same time has always been a big thing for me. 

T: How nervous are you to be away from home? What will you miss about your hometown?

K: I’m not really that nervous to be away from home. I’m not that far, so if anything ever happens I’m able to drive home. One thing I’m definitely going to miss about my hometown will be all my friends, especially my best friends. With us going to different colleges, there won’t be many times where we’ll be able to be together. I’m going to really miss them, but I wish them all the best in college. 

T: What’s the first thing you want to do on your first day of college? 

K: The first thing I want to do on my first day of college is to really get a feel for everything, get to know everybody, and get my work in.
