The double-snap coaching shorts that Appling County head coach Rick Tomberlin and every other coach wore 32 years ago have given way to sleek dri-fit coaching pants. But as Merle Haggard said in his American loving ode, “Okie From Muskogee,” “Football is still the roughest sport on campus.” The gridiron, especially in Southeast Georgia, is still the proving ground for excellence and definitely community bragging rights.
