Most fans of South Georgia teams, such as Cook, Brooks, Fitzgerald, and others remember it all too well: Their teams dominating the regular season year after year, season after season, raising the hopes of the communities that this year was going to be the year — only to have those hopes dashed in the playoffs by opponents from a much larger school, such as Buford, Greater Atlanta Christian, or Benedictine.
That went on seemingly forever. It was a hopeless feeling. No matter how good these teams were, they stood no chance once they met up with the city/private schools north of the gnat line.
