Few schools in St. Johns county can dominate quite like the Ponte Vedra Sharks. The Sharks almost went all the way last season, but lost in a nail biter to American Heritage.
The Sharks went undefeated for almost the entire season, including the playoffs. Their only loss was in the division title game against Heritage, a team with many of the top recruits in the nation.
When you look at the statistics for the team, their winning percentage doesn’t seem out of the ordinary. The Sharks boast an average of 41 points per game. Regardless of what level you are playing at, that is a difficult challenge for any team to overcome.
However, this year they face the powerhouse that is Trinity Christian Academy. This will be the biggest hurdle the Sharks will have to jump in their regular season. All of the other games are winnable for the Sharks.
Leading the Sharks is center Rob Wortelboer, who is their 6’3” 280lb senior. Behind him plays one of the most productive offenses in the state.
Although last season may have been a letdown for the Sharks as they lost the state title game by just two points, we have no doubt that they will come back as strong as ever. Who knows, this year they just might take it all.
