When most people think of an athlete, they probably envision someone six- foot-tall, covered in muscles from the neck down and someone who is … young. But Harriette Thompson, a 94-year-old cancer survivor, defies this stereotype of what it means to be an athlete. A few weeks ago on June 5th Harriette became the oldest woman to finish a half marathon at the San Diego Rock’ n’ Roll Marathon. Two years earlier Harriette became the oldest woman to finish a marathon at the same race.
