Throughout the summer months, many prominent high school basketball players – a majority of them from out of state – transferred to schools in Florida. They’re all likely to make significant impacts with their respective new teams this season. Here we take a look at six Florida high school basketball transfers in particular that you should know.
PG Rob Wright (Montverde Academy)
Montverde Academy, arguably the state’s top preseason team, lands multiple players on this list, the first of whom is Wright. A highly touted four-star Baylor commit, the senior previously attended Neumann-Goretti (PA), where he averaged 23.1 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 4.9 APG, and 2.3 SPG for one of Pennsylvania’s top teams in 2022.
PF Donnie Freeman (IMG Academy)
IMG Academy, another one of Florida high school basketball’s premier programs, also lands a few players on this list of Florida high school basketball transfers likely to make an impact. The first is Freeman, a four-star Syracuse commit who’s coming off a junior season in which he averaged 16.8 PPG and 8.5 RPG for a St. John’s team that was one of the best in Washington D.C.
CG Jase Richardson (Miami Columbus)
Also a four-star prospect in the 2024 class, Richardson is one of the biggest of the big-name transfers to make the move to Florida high school basketball in the offseason. Richardson comes to back-to-back defending Class 7A state champion Miami Columbus from Bishop Gorman (NV).
PG Darius Acuff Jr. (IMG Academy)
The first junior on this list is Acuff, who makes the move to IMG Academy from Cass Tech (MI). Acuff, a five-star prospect, is perhaps the top point guard in the 2025 class. He’s coming off a season in which he averaged 21.4 PPG and 5.7 RPG for one of Michigan’s top teams.
SF Chase McCarty (IMG Academy)
The third IMG Academy player on our list, McCarty joins the Ascenders from Westminster Christian (AL), where he was one of the state’s top players by averaging 23.7 PPG and 6.5 RPG. McCarty, a senior, is rated as a four-star small forward.
