ITG Next spoke with Santa Fe Catholic head baseball coach David Saliba about the Hawks talented returning roster, a few key names to know entering the 2022 season and goals team has entering the year.
Q: Coach David Saliba, having extensive experience in coaching, what has your time so far at Santa Fe Catholic in particular meant to you personally?
A: Santa Fe Catholic is an outstanding school, and it has been an honor to work here.
Q: Looking at this year’s Hawks team, you return multiple key names from last season. How do you feel that returning experience will benefit your team on the field this season?
A: We have six starters back and our top four pitchers, I hope they can lead this team on how to win and teach the younger guys.
Q: Speaking of that returning experience, two of your top hitters from last season in Peter Walsh and Jose Burey headline that group. Just how big of an impact did those two have on your success last season, and who are a few other names that could play bigger roles this season compared to a year ago?
A: They are important to our team as our offensive leaders. Peter is going to Rollins College next year. We have Trent Henley, our top pitcher back, and also Blake Lyons who was out most of last year.
Q: What are some goals you’d say that this Hawks team has entering the 2022 season?
A: We want to win the district, and get into the playoffs and see how far we can go.
