4 Questions with Ryan Herring

4 Questions with Ryan Herring
Pierce County Football Head Coach

When and where did you get your start in coaching?
“I began my career coaching defensive backs at Newnan High school in 1999. My dad had just retired from Oxford High School in Alabama and had taken the Newnan job. I turned down coaching safeties at Troy to go to work for my dad at Newnan.”

2. What has been the most challenging part of becoming a head football coach at the high school level?
“The most challenging part of being a head coach today is the social media aspect that’s in our society. Kids today have so many negative things in front of them daily to look at. The devil works on kids by what they see and hear.”

3. What’s it like coaching in Pierce County: the area,  the fans,  and their love for Pierce County bears football?
“Pierce County is a great community to live and work in. We have a touchdown club president that gives us everything we need. We have an athletic director that takes a lot of work off of me. Friday nights are fun. We traveled to Fitzgerald, which was an hour-and-a-half away, and had twice the number of fans at the game than what they had. That speaks to how great our support is. It’s unbelievable.”

4. How are things going so far this season? What’s the future look like for Pierce County football?
“We are currently 4-1 on the season and have played a very tough schedule. We are having a great season and look to make a run in the playoffs. We are just going to have to take it one game at a time and try to get better each week.”
