This week, we ask Northside Warner Robins head football coach Chad Alligood about carrying over the success of last season, which included advancing to the Class 6A quarterfinals, to this season. How did the Eagles look this offseason? Here’s Alligood responding to those questions and more.
Q: Coach, here we are with the 2022 season right around the corner! Lets start there with your season opener against Jones County in the Macon Touchdown Club Middle Georgia Kick-off Classic. Its a 4:00 kick, which should be nice and toasty! Let me ask you about the Greyhounds first. What type of opponent are you preparing for with Coach Chastain and Jones County?
A: It will be a great game to start the season off with and see where we are as a team. Jones County will be well-coached and have some playmakers on both sides of the ball. I have known Coach Chastain since we coached together here at Northside. He has done a great job at Jones and we will have to be ready to play.
Q: Let’s talk about the offseason and the preparation leading up to now. How have things gone this spring and summer?
A: We have had a great offseason starting all the way back in January. The players have worked really hard and are determined to get Northside back to the top. Some players have stepped in to leadership roles and really challenged our team to practice and play up to the Northside standard that was set many years ago.
Q: Do you feel like the success of last season was a “turning the corner” moment with the transition of you bringing a new approach to Northside Warner Robins football?
A: Last season I feel we took a major step forward in getting this program back to being in contention for championships. We had some huge wins and got deep in the playoffs, so I think we are on the right track to have a great year.
Q: Coach, we asked about your opener against Jones County. Can you talk about your remaining opponents in 2022, including your new region foes?
A: Our schedule is going to be tough but fun. You want to play and coach in big games. We have plenty of them. Our non-region schedule has Jones, Peach, Warner Robins, North Cobb and Crisp. All of these teams will be in the hunt come playoff time in their classification. Then you add our region opponents to it. We have to be ready to play each week.
