4 Questions With Lowndes Baseball Coach Ryan Page
We spoke with Lowndes baseball coach Ryan Page to get his thoughts on this season.
Q: How is this year’s team doing so far?
A: So far this season we are 8-1 with our only loss to Grayson 5-4, who is currently ranked No. 1 by some poles in Georgia. (We’re) 2-0 versus the Cats for the season sweep, and we begin region play this Friday night.
Q: I’ve heard from several coaches that they couldn’t wait to get back on the field after having a very short season last year. What were your thoughts this past fall and winter?
A: As most coaches, I was frustrated for the kids. So many of these young men put so much time and effort into this not only during our season but travel baseball as well. To see that all come to an end when some were fighting for college roster spots was tough. However, we have adapted and just continued to work through the process.
Q: Who is the team in Region 1-7A that is the team to beat to get to a region title in 2021?
A: Region 1-7A is always up for grabs as each team will have a few pitchers and will come down to what team makes the least amount of mistakes. I believe we have a great shot to be there in the end if we do the things we are supposed to do and limit the mistakes.
Q: Who are your top performers so far?
A: Our top performers so far have been Sage O’berry who is currently hitting .517 and playing a great shortstop for us (Young Harris commit). Our pitching staff is also our strong suit as William Joyner, Mason Steel, Tristin Bohler, Jalen Hudson, and Garitt Fender have all performed great on the mound. A big surprise so far has been the bat of Jacob Walker, who is currently hitting .500. We have one of the best catchers in the state in Daniel Kerrigan, who has been an absolute beast behind the plate and shut down the run game, along with directing our pitching staff.
