Top 10 Georgia High School Football Teams in Class 6A

The Carrollton Trojans will attempt to finish the season as the No. 1 team in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A.
They’ll have to get by the Grayson Rams, who would love nothing more than to take the top slot away from the Trojans, who are coming off an impressive 30-17 win over Buford last week.

Carrollton and Buford, the No. 1 and No. 2 teams, respectively, in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A, each won last week, setting up a battle between these two powerhouse programs in Buford this week.
The big question heading into the game is whether Carrollton’s All-American quarterback, Julian “JuJu” Lewis, will be available for the contest. He suffered what appeared to be a hand injury in the second quarter of last week’s game against Hillgrove and did not return to the field.
Collins Hill and North Gwinnett both lost last week, ending their bids for a state title.

The Carrollton Trojans had no problem in their 49-13 playoff win over the Valdosta Wildcats last week, scoring early and often while the Trojan defense shut down the talented Wildcat offense in advancing to the quarterfinals. Carrollton remains the No. 1 team in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A.
The rest of our Top 5 teams won, while Douglas County knocked off North Cobb.
West Forsyth and Hillgrove won their Round 2 playoff games, putting themselves among the Top 10 teams in the state’s highest classification this week.

In the first round of the GHSA playoffs last week, almost every team in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A came out on top.
The only exception was the previously ranked Mill Creek Hawks, who fell to Douglas County.
The Norcross Blue Devils of head coach Keith Maloof move into the Top 10 this week.

Grayson was the only one of our Top 10 teams in action last week, and the Rams showed why they are deserving of the No. 5 spot in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A with an impressive 30-point win over the Newton Rams.
Carrollton remains our top team in the state’s highest classification, and they’ll try to keep that No. 1 ranking as they begin the playoffs.
Any one of the Top 10 teams here have a shot at going far, however.

In the battle between the Valdosta Wildcats and Lowndes Vikings known as the Winnersville Classic, the Vikings defeated the Wildcats by a 30-20 final score. Lowndes enters our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A as our No. 9 team.
Colquitt County won their game against Richmond Hill to clinch the Region 1-6A title and top seed entering playoffs.
Elsewhere, Carrollton, Buford, North Gwinnett, and Collins Hill all won their games and remain locked in at Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively.

Our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A remain unchanged this week.
North Gwinnett picked up a huge 27-21 victory over Norcross last week to remain unbeaten and capture the region crown in Region 7-6A.
Carrollton and Buford also won and are locked in at the top two spots.
Valdosta squeaked by Tift County by a 14-7 margin and hangs on to the final spot at No. 10 for the second straight week.

Carrollton shows no signs of letting go of the No. 1 spot as the Trojans remain undefeated following a big win over East Coweta.
Buford and North Gwinnett remain close behind at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Collins Hill moves back into the Top 5 of our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A following their 1-point win over Mill Creek (13-12) last Thursday night.
The Colquitt County Packers find their way back into our Top 10 after an impressive performance against one of the most explosive teams in the state, Valdosta. Colquitt County lost 7-3, but Valdosta came into the game averaging over 50 points per game.

North Gwinnett won big over rival Parkview in the ITG Next Game of the Week. The Bulldogs of head coach Eric Godfree remain at No. 3 this week behind Buford and top-ranked Carrollton.

The Top 2 teams in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A retain their places after each playing in two of the most anticipated games of the week.
No. 2 Buford went to Douglasville and came away with a win over Douglas County, who drops three places in the rankings.
No. 1 Carrollton hosted Gainesville in the other highlighted game, which belonged to the home team and Trojans quarterback JuJu Lewis.
North Gwinnett keeps on winning, as do Camden County, North Cobb, and Valdosta.

Valdosta makes their debut in our updated 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 6A following an impressive road win at Tampa Jesuit (Florida).
North Gwinnett pulled off their second big win of the season after defeating Mill Creek last week. This follows their win over Colquitt County two weeks ago. North Gwinnett remains at No. 4 in our Top 10, and Mill Creek falls two spots after their loss.
Grayson continues to impress with another win over a quality out-of-state opponent. This time it was a 28-14 win over Mallard Creek (North Carolina).

The North Gwinnett Bulldogs make their debut at No. 4 after defeating the Colquitt County Packers, who were previously ranked in that No. 4 spot.
Colquitt County still remains as one of our Top 10 teams, falling to No. 10.
Walton falls out of the rankings after a loss to Roswell.

Each of the teams in our Top 10 rankings for Class 6A were victorious in Week 2 of the 2024 Georgia high school football season.
That includes Buford, who was staring at a rare 0-2 start to the season, but a come-from-behind win over Benedictine kept that from happening and evened the Wolves at 1-1.
Collins Hill won their second straight contest in exciting fashion after a 21-14 victory over Woodward Academy in the Eagles’ home opener.
Grayson snared their first win of the season last Thursday in Alabama, defeating Thompson 15-14 in overtime.

It was a wild season-opening week as five of our top-ranked teams across all classifications lost their first game, but don’t think this will be the only time that happens. This could be one of those seasons that sees a different No. 1 each week. Here’s a look at our updated Top 10 team rankings for Class 6A after Week 1 of the 2024 Georgia high school football season.
Carrollton defeated Woodward Academy last week, and that coupled with Buford’s loss to Milton pushes Carrollton and quarterback Julian “JuJu” Lewis into the No. 1 spot.
Collins Hill proved that they were deserving of our Top-10 ranking last week by knocking off Grayson 20-19, which moves the Eagles up to the No. 6 spot.
Walton makes their debut in this week’s poll, replacing Newton, who lost to Eastside.

The 2024 Georgia high school football season is finally here, and you will notice that ITG Next’s weekly rankings have a new look. This year we will rank the Top 10 teams in each classification with a total of eight rankings. This includes a separate Top 10 ranking of the “private only” teams in Class 1A-DI, Class 2A, and Class 3A. Here is a look at our updated 2024 Georgia high school football preseason rankings for Class 6A in the new format.
Yes, Buford and Colquitt County lost some big-time talent to graduation, including each of their starting quarterbacks from last season. But they are solid programs with excellent coaches. Don’t expect them to simply disappear.
Carrollton has the most talked-about player in the state in quarterback Julian “JuJu” Lewis, who will try to rally the Trojans to a state title before he heads west to lead the Trojans of Southern California.
Look for Collins Hill head coach Drew Swick to have his Eagles once again among the best in the state’s highest classification.
