The 2022-2023 Florida high school soccer season is upon us, which means we will be ranking the top 25 boys and girls soccer teams in the state. With many teams having already played at least a handful of games so far, this initial list is an early-season look at where teams currently stand and could look very different come playoff time in late January. These Florida high school boys soccer rankings are “power rankings”-style and are determined by taking into account the teams’ current overall record, winning percentage, and where they finished last year.
The Top 10
1. Plant (7A)
The Panthers have the most wins so far this year with 10, as well as the highest point differential, 40. Plant has been on a tear in 2022, with senior Adán McGlynn leading the way for – he has 18 goals already. The Panthers look poised to make another deep playoff run.
2. Viera (6A)
The Hawks made their first-ever state Florida high school boys soccer championship game appearance last year, falling short to Doral Academy. Viera has scored 35 points and given up just 5 to date in a dominant start to the season.
3. Jesuit (5A)
Jesuit made an appearance in the state semifinals in 2021 before losing to eventual state champion Belen Jesuit. They’re right on track to make another deep run in 2022-23.
4. American Heritage (5A)
No Florida high school sports ranking would be complete without having the Patriots on it, and the boys soccer club is no different. The Patriots have looked like a strong contender in 5A so far in 2022.
5. Fleming Island (6A)
Maybe somewhat of a surprise from last season, the Golden Eagles are looking to build on their deep playoff run from a year ago.
6. Gulfbreeze (6A)
Gulfbreeze is off to a strong start in 2022. This talented group looks to take a step this year after moving up from Class 5A, but it won’t get any easier in a loaded 6A class.
7. Mandarin (7A)
The Mustangs have been one of North Florida’s most dominant teams so far this season. After making a semifinal appearance in 7A last year, they are right on track to make another run.
8. Bishop Moore (4A)
One of the few non-6A or 7A schools in the top 10, Bishop Moore has been one of the more dominant teams in Florida on the way to an 8-1 record.
9. Maclay (3A)
The smallest team in the top 10 of our Florida high school boys soccer rankings, Maclay is currently undefeated and will be a real threat in Class 3A again this year.
10. New Smyrna Beach (6A)
One trend among some of the top teams on this list is strong defense, and NSB is no exception as the Barracudas have only given up one goal this year. Once again they look to be a tough contender in 6A.
