10 Highest-Scoring Offenses in Georgia High School Football History

Offenses Georgia High School Football

Defense wins championships. At least, that’s how the saying goes. However, several Georgia high school football programs have found success historically with powerful offenses. High-scoring offenses have thrived especially in the past two decades, as the rise of high-volume passing attacks has allowed good quarterbacks to torch opposing secondaries. That doesn’t exclude a couple seasons of dominance prior to this century, though. Which teams have scored the most points per game in Georgia high school football history? Let’s count down the top-10 highest-scoring offenses.

10. Chamblee (2021)

One of two teams from this past season to crack this list, Chamblee amassed a 9-1 record behind an offense that churned out 50.4 points a game. Junior quarterback Fabian Walker led the offensive explosion with 38 total touchdowns, including a record seven passing scores in the first half of an 84-7 rout of Druid Hills.

T8. Rome (2017)

This is undoubtedly the most impressive season of any team on this list. In 2017, Rome went undefeated and won the 5A state championship while averaging 50.5 points per game. The Wolves crushed six ranked opponents, including routing 2nd-ranked Buford in the state semifinals, 45-7. They completed the championship run with a 38-0 blowout over Warner Robins, cementing them as one of the highest-scoring offenses and best offensive teams in Georgia history.

T8. Monroe Area (2013)

Tied with Rome, Monroe Area lit up opposing defenses in 2013, scoring 40 or more points in all but two games. The Purple Hurricanes featured two backs who rushed for more than 1,500 yards each, and a future NFL wide receiver in Michael Gallup. Monroe Area finally met its match in the second round of playoffs against the eventual state runner-up, Carrollton.

7. Rabun County (2020)

It’s easy to see how the Wildcats put up 50.7 points per game: 5-star QB Gunner Stockton. Stockton accounted for a whopping 71 total touchdowns as the Wildcats dropped 63 or more points in five regular season games. However, it was defensive struggles that doomed Rabun County in a massive 41-17 semifinals loss to Callaway.

T5. Dublin (2005)

This may be one of the greatest teams of all time to never win a title. Dublin averaged 50.9 points a game in 2005, but the main focus was on their defense, which allowed only three points in the entire regular season. The Fighting Irish scored 50 or more points in seven games, but suffered one of Georgia’s biggest upset losses in the second round of playoffs to unranked Cook.

T5. Camden County (2011)

The 2011 Wildcats were an exhibition in consistency. They scored 55 or more points in all but one regular season game, setting the standard for offensive excellence through a balanced rush attack that provided 72 touchdowns. However, their lack of competition brought their downfall, as the first ranked team they faced, Colquitt County, defeated them in the quarterfinals.

4. Southeast Bulloch (1972)

The Yellow Jackets’ 51 points per game were largely due to massive blowouts in region play. They scored 70 points in four of their six region games, highlighted by a 70-0 win over 4th-ranked Montgomery County. Southeast Bulloch was finally tested in the state championship, where they defeated Adairsville in an ironic defensive showdown, 12-9.

3. Eagle’s Landing Christian (2017)

After a close 21-14 win over Eagle’s Landing to open the season, the Chargers built up momentum and clobbered opponents to the tune of 52 points per game. While Josh Mays led the team in rushing, sophomore back Keaton Mitchell showed flashes of brilliance with over 900 yards and 20 touchdowns. ELCA became formidable as the season progressed, eventually resulting in their 41-3 beatdown state championship win over No. 2 Athens Academy.

2. Eagle’s Landing Christian (2018)

Back again? The Chargers followed up their astonishing 2017 campaign with an even more mind-blowing 2018 season that featured 52.6 PPG. Remember Keaton Mitchell? Well, he broke out, rushing for 2,509 yards and 49 touchdowns, and etching his name into the record books. ELCA scored 70 points in the state semifinals before once again routing Athens Academy for the trophy, 44-17.

1. Trinity Christian (2021)

History was made in 2021 as Trinity Christian put up 53 points per game en route to a state championship. The Lions scored at least 44 points in every game this season (minus a 34-3 win over No. 2 ELCA), thanks mostly to the Dallas brothers. QB David Dallas passed for 49 touchdowns and RB Dominick Cosper added 27 more on the ground. WR Josh Dallas caught for 15 scores and even intercepted seven passes defensively, providing an all-round impact to the team. The Lions rolled through all seven ranked opponents this past season, cementing them as tops among highest-scoring offenses in Georgia high school football history.
