Mike Montemayor was a hard-hitting, 5-foot-11-inch, 220-pound linebacker for the Mandarin Mustangs during his senior season in 2007. It wasn’t the way Montemayor wanted to finish his four-year career with the Mustangs, as the team won just one of its 10 games that season, though six of the losses were by 10 points or less.
While it wasn’t the success he had hoped for on the field, Montemayor did realize one important, life-changing revelation that season. He decided he wanted to pursue a coaching career in football at the high school level.
