Many of the leading Florida high school football programs in years past again boast top billing to this point in the 2022 season. If you had to make the case for one team as the best, who would it be at the moment? Let’s look at a handful of candidates one could make a case for.
We’ll start with Class 3M’s St. Thomas Aquinas, the top team in our Class 3-4 Top 25 rankings. The defending 7A state champions are the state title favorite in 3M at the moment. The Raiders entered the week with an undefeated 5-0 record, including key in-state wins over Cocoa, Western, and Treasure Coast, as well as an impressive out-of-state victory over St. Joseph’s Prep from Pennsylvania. Averaging 38.2 ppg, the Raiders not only are strong team when it comes to putting up points, they are just as good, if not better, on defense, allowing only 11.6 ppg to opponents.
Another favorite in the conversation over who is the best Florida high school football team is Chaminade-Madonna. The Lions are the clear state title favorite in Class 1M and currently sit undefeated at 5-0 against about as tough a schedule as any team has played state-wide so far. Yes, it is that tough, with games already played against St. John’s (DC), Dillard, Miami Northwestern, American Heritage, and Gulliver Prep.
Chaminade-Madonna has thrived against the stiff competition, especially on offense, where the Lions are averaging 39.2 ppg. They might have the most talented offense in the state, with strong talent at almost every position on that side of the ball.
Outside of St. Thomas Aquinas and Chaminade-Madonna, are there any other teams you could make an argument for? Long story short, yes, there are two more for sure in Miami Central and IMG Academy.
The Rockets won a head-to-head matchup earlier this season and are off to an undefeated start that has them looking like the favorite in a loaded Class 2M. As for the Ascenders, it’s clear that IMG Academy is loaded with talent and would likely be favored in a potential matchup with any team in the state they might play.
Who do you think is the top team at the moment in Florida high school football: St. Thomas Aquinas, Chaminade-Madonna, Miami Central, or IMG Academy? Or is it someone else, and if so, who?
