Where Are They Now? Top 2019 High School Baseball Prospects

The Class of 2019 produced numerous future major league baseball players, many of whom are beginning to make a significant impact at the highest level. We take a look back at the top high school baseball prospects in the 2019 class and see where each of them is now.

Bobby Witt Jr.

The 2019 Gatorade National Player of the Year, Witt Jr. was widely considered the top high school baseball prospect in 2019, when as a senior at Colleyville Heritage High School in Texas he hit .482 with 15 HR, 55 RBI, and 19 SB. Selected No. 2 overall in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals, Witt Jr. was considered one of baseball’s top prospects prior to his major league debut this past season, when he slashed .254/.294/.428 in 150 games with 20 HR, 80 RBI, and 30 SB.

Riley Greene

Greene took home Florida Gatorade Player of the Year honors in 2019 after hitting for.422 as a senior at Hagerty High School. He was selected with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers. Greene made his MLB debut with the Tiger this season, slashing .253/.321/.362 with 42 RBI in 93 games.

CJ Abrams

Not far behind Witt Jr. and Greene was Abrams, another shortstop who hit for .410 with 27 RBI and 33 SB as a senior at Blessed Trinity High School in Georgia. He was selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. Also making his MLB debut this past season, Abrams began the season with San Diego before being traded to the Washington Nationals midseason. He slashed a combined .246/.280/.324 with 21 RBI in 90 games as a rookie.

Brett Baty

Selected No. 12 overall in the 2019 MLB Draft by the New York Mets, Baty was also a top high school baseball player from the 2019 class. In senior season, he hit .602 with 19 HR and 50 RBI at Lake Travis High School in Texas. Making his major league debut with New York this season, Baty appeared in 11 games and posted a .586 OPS.

Corbin Carroll

The last player on our list of top 2019 baseball prospects is Carroll, who was selected No. 16 overall out of Washington’s Lakeside School by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Carroll also made his major league debut earlier this past season, posting a combined .830 OPS with 14 RBI in 32 games.
