Falling leaves.  Slowly dropping temperatures.  Costumes.  Candy.  Halloween.

The end of October is long anticipated for a number of reasons.  But for football fans in South Georgia, it only means one thing: It is time for the 2015 Winnersville Classic.

The long-standing rivalry is known nationwide, and the newest chapter will be written on Friday at Martin Stadium.  Valdosta holds the edge overall with a 35-18 record against their in-city rival; however, since 2004, the Vikings have won 9 of 11 meetings, including two of the last three.

Although both teams had last week off, Lowndes comes in with a head of steam after handling business in impressive fashion against Lee County on October 16.  They held the Trojans scoreless for nearly three quarters in what would eventually be a 42-7 win for Lowndes.

Valdosta comes in looking for redemption after a tough defeat at the hands of Colquitt County.  The 49-14 loss gave the Wildcats their second region loss, but bouncing back is a strong possibility with a win on Friday.  Valdosta also has momentum on their side in the rivalry’s recent history; they won last year’s Classic by a score of 13-10.

Bragging rights are always on the line in this contest, but also hanging in the balance is a potential spot in the postseason.  Both teams currently sport a 1-2 record in Region 1-AAAAAA, and a win or loss on Friday night will undoubtedly be a major factor in determining which team will play beyond their respective season finales next week.

In the Game will be set up at Martin Stadium prior to kickoff as well as we enjoy the tailgating festivities.  Stop by at 4:00 and give us your picks for tonight’s matchups! Be sure to check in through the ScoreStream app to stay on top of everything happening on Friday nights!
