After a week in which games across the state were affected by Hurricane Helene, here are some of the state’s top performances from Week 6 of the 2024 Florida high school football season.
Wells Bettenhausen, Quarterback – Walton Braves
Wells Bettenhausen was truly stellar in Walton’s 60-38 win over South Walton, completing 14-of-18 passes for 276 yards and five touchdowns. The senior also rushed for a season-high 30 yards on four attempts.
Evan Padron, Defensive End – West Broward Bobcats
Evan Padron compiled eight tackles, seven tackles for loss, and seven sacks in West Broward’s 48-0 victory over Everglades.
Dia Bell, Quarterback – American Heritage Patriots
Five-star Texas commit Dia Bell completed 18-of-22 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns in American Heritage’s 35-0 win over Plantation. He rushed for 11 yards on four attempts as well.
Arthur Lewis IV, Running Back – Bartram Trail Bears
Arthur Lewis IV rushed for 249 yards and three touchdowns on 18 attempts in Bartram Trail’s 46-26 loss against Tocoi Creek.
Tymir Gaines, Running Back – Mount Dora Hurricanes
Tymir Gaines rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns on 15 attempts and caught one pass for 37 yards and another score in Mount Dora’s 57-6 win over Atlantic. The junior also returned a kickoff for a 60-yard touchdown and returned a punt for 35 yards.
Shawn Simeon, Running Back – Naples Golden Eagles
Shawn Simeon rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns on 23 attempts and returned two kickoffs for 39 yards in Naples’ 21-20 win over Dunbar.
Drew Watson, Wide Receiver – Beachside Barracudas
Drew Watson had nine receptions for a season-high 158 yards and three touchdowns in Beachside’s 41-3 loss to Menendez.
Logan Calder, Kicker – Oviedo Lions
Logan Calder was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and 5-for-5 on extra points in Oviedo’s 52-27 win over Wekiva.
Jamaurie Russell, Defensive End – Halifax Academy Knights
Jamaurie Russell amassed 10 tackles, two TFLs, two sacks, and one forced fumble in Halifax Academy’s 55-24 win over Taylor.
Chris Charity, Linebacker – Tohopekaliga Tigers
Chris Charity compiled 14 tackles, two TFLs, and two sacks in Tohopekaliga’s 14-9 victory against Harmony.
