Key Roster Losses
Valwood will miss former running back Triston White in the offensive backfield heading into 2025. White rushed for 875 yards and 10 TDs last season. He also had 189 yards receiving with three TDs in 2024. He is now at Northern Illinois University after committing to the Huskies last year.
Defensive back and wide receiver Andrew Belcher is also off to play college football after signing with Shorter University.
Other key members not returning are linebacker Mills Moorman, defensive back Hudson Paylo, linebacker Grant Moss, and defensive back Dustin Gibbs.
Key Players Returning
Valwood head coach Brad Wells is glad to have starting quarterback Tayt Snellgrove returning for his third straight season. The senior has thrown for 1,833 yards with 24 TDs and rushed for 1,108 yards with 17 TDs over the last two seasons.
Joining Snellgrove this season are returning wideout Cort Kurrie, offensive lineman Ian Giddens, and offensive lineman Jack Melendez.
Returning to the defense in 2025 are defensive lineman Gavin Chambers and defensive back Ayundrae Belcher.
What to Expect From the Valwood Valiants in 2025
Valwood will try to make it back to the GIAA Class 3A state championship game after falling just short of claiming their second straight title last season against Deerfield-Windsor.
Having three-year starter Snellgrove back at QB will certainly give the Valiants a great shot at winning a lot of games in 2025.
Wells said he feels optimistic with the talented and experienced group he’s returning.
“It’s early, but I feel this group has the capability to be competitive within our region,” Wells said.
Kurrie, the Valiants’ leading receiver and Snellgrove’s top target, is back, which should give Valwood another opportunity to put up a lot of points in 2025.
2025 Season Prediction
Valwood will be there once again in the end. I predict a 10-2 finish for the Valiants in 2025.
