Updated 2022 MLB Draft Prospects From Florida High Schools

About two months ago, we took a look at some of the top 2022 MLB Draft prospects from Florida high school baseball. As we are now approaching the mid-way point of the season, here’s the 2022 prospect updates. Who has been performing the best? (NOTE: Stats as of March 20, 2022)

Elijah Green – IMG Academy

One of the nation’s top players playing for one of the nation’s top teams, Elijah Green has appeared in nine games so far for the Ascenders where the outfielder has slashed .286/.412/.500 with a .912 OPS. Posting a perfect fielding percentage defensively, Green has also hit two home runs during that span with 10 RBI’s, as well as having made an impact on the basepaths where he has stolen six bases.  

As for IMG Academy, the Ascenders are cemented as one of the top overall teams in the country, currently sitting at 9-0. Included in this stretch are wins over a few notable Florida baseball teams such as Doral Academy, George Jenkins, and Lakewood Ranch.

Jackson Ferris – IMG Academy

Another standout with the Ascenders, Jackson Ferris has made a total of four appearances on the mound for IMG Academy, posting a combined 3-0 record with a perfect 0.00 ERA. The left-hander has also struck out a total of 53 batters compared to only three walks across 24 innings pitched, with opponents currently holding a .088 batting average against Ferris. 

Brandon Barriera – American Heritage

One of the nation’s top southpaws alongside Ferris previously, Brandon Barriera has so far made a total of four starts for American Heritage, posting a combined 0.39 ERA across 18 innings pitched. Included in that span is one complete game, seven walks allowed, and 31 strikeouts, as well as opponents holding a .130 batting average against. 

One of the top teams in Class 5A, American Heritage currently owns an 8-2 record on the year, owning some impressive wins over teams such as Braddock, Champagnat Catholic, and Calvary Christian. 

Sal Stewart – Westminster Christian

One of the top home run hitters in high school baseball, Sal Stewart has enjoyed a phenomenal start to the season offensively slashing .577/.703/1.038 with a 1.741 OPS across Westminster Christian’s first nine games. Hitting two home runs with seven RBI’s so far, six of Stewart’s 15 hits have been doubles, as well as the third baseman having also stolen two bases. 

One of the top teams in Class 3A, Westminster Christian has gone 7-2 to start the season headlined by a six-game winning streak to start the year that included a dominant win over Braddock. 

Brady Neal – IMG Academy

One of the top overall catchers in the 2022 MLB Draft, Brady Neal has slashed a combined .310/.412/.413 with an .826 OPS across his first nine games of the season for the Ascenders. Of his nine hits on the year, three have been doubles, along with six total RBI’s. 

Jurrangelo Cijntje – Champagnat Catholic

The two-way standout has so far appeared in five games at the plate for Champagnat Catholic slashing .375/.400/.750 with a 1.150 OPS, as well as adding one home run and five RBI’s. Jurrangelo Cijntje has also made one appearance so far on the mound, allowing four runs across 4.2 innings pitched where he struck out 12 batters. 

Champagnat Catholic is off to a 3-6 overall start to the season, one that includes losses to teams such as American Heritage, Trinity Christian, and Mater Lakes Academy.
