Trinity Christian Football 2023 Team Preview

We tell you everything you need to know about the 2023 Trinity Christian football team, including roster changes and what fans can expect from the Conquerors this season.

2022 Stats

  • Overall Record: 11-1
  • Points Scored: 462
  • Points Allowed: 239

Key Losses

Trinity Christian enters this 2023 season with minimal losses in terms of the overall number of seniors who graduated, but the ones who did leave were impact players and their loss will be felt. One of the biggest losses to graduation is RB Treyaun Webb, who will continue his career at Florida. Webb had 3,488 career rushing yards and 47 TDs at Trinity Christian, averaging 7.5 yards per carry in his career.

Defensive lineman Tomarion McCray’s presence on the defensive side will be missed, as he racked up 38 tackles, including 9.5 TFL and 5.5 sacks last season after coming over from Baldwin following his junior year. K/P Seth Bialek leaves after a career that saw him nail 85 of 100 PATs and 11 of 15 field goal attempts. His longest FG was a 44-yarder, and he averaged 34.3 yards per try as the Conquerors’ punter. Defensive back Trevyn Smith has graduated and leaves with 62 career tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Who’s Back

Returning to lead the Trinity Christian offense is one of the top quarterbacks in the country, senior Colin Hurley. Originally scheduled to graduate in 2025, Hurley reclassified as a 2024 graduate, making this his final season in Jacksonville. He was named as a member of the  “Elite 11,” an annual distinction reserved for only the top group of quarterbacks in the country. The four-star recruit is headed to LSU following this season.

Another player widely considered to be one of the best athletes in the state is senior LB/ATH Cam Anderson, whose 142 tackles led the state. Senior Miles Burris is a returning three-star WR who will serve as one of the primary targets for Hurley. ATH Kyle Boylston is back for his senior season after a 2022 campaign that saw him score 7 touchdowns and make 7 interceptions. One of the INTs was a pick-6 for 84 yards with less than 30 seconds remaining, clinching a win against Orlando Christian in the state playoffs. Boylston also made 51 tackles last year. RB Darnell Ricky Rogers is another key returnee.

What to Expect

A lot of positives surround Trinity Christian heading into the 2023 season. With so few seniors graduating from last year’s 11-win squad, it only makes sense to believe this team could be a pretty special group. The 2023 Conquerors will have one of the best QBs in the country in Hurley, and veteran head coach Verlon Dorminey also is back for another season.

Trinity Christian has nine state championships and could have the team to make a run at a 10th. The Conquerors certainly appear to have all the ingredients in place – talent, coaching, winning tradition, and leadership – to do so in 2023.

Prediction

Hard not to see a big season for this 2023 Trinity Christian football team: I predict a 12-2 finish.
