ITG Next is pleased to announce that Thomas County Central senior quarterback Samuel Brown is the ITG Next Georgia Male Athlete of the Month for October 2022, presented by Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance. Brown was one of four outstanding Georgia high school student-athletes who were selected as nominees based on their performances in September, and Brown received the majority of all votes submitted.
Along with Brown, the other nominees were Northeast Macon RB Nick Woodford, Grayson standout freshman Tyler Atkinson, and McIntosh QB Tate Morris. ITG Next is proud to salute all of our nominees for their great performances in September.
Brown, the son of Phillip and Stephanie Brown, has been a big part of the success at Thomas County Central this season, and his September performance certainly represents what he has been able to do all year long. During the four games in September, Brown completed 54 passes out of 70 attempts for an incredible completion percentage of 77%. He passed for 13 TDs and ran for another 2 TDs last month.
Brown has essentially performed at that same pace for the entire season, with 1,626 yards passing on 103 completions out of 142 pass attempts, an average of 232 yards per game. That’s a 73% completion percentage for the season, among the best in the state. He has thrown for 19 TDs through the Jackets’ first seven games, and the one stat that may be the most impressive is he has thrown only 2 interceptions for the entire season.
While Brown may not be your typical dual-threat QB, he can certainly get the job done running with the football when needed. He has 219 rushing yards and 6 TDs so far. His single-game best performance came back on September 9 against Chiles High School. In that game, Brown passed for 321 yards and 5 TDs. Over his career, Brown has thrown for 2,500 yards with 28 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 280 pass attempts. He also has 452 rushing yards with 11 TDs during that span.
With Brown directing the offense this season, the Yellow Jackets are undefeated at 7-0. Thomas County Central head football coach Justin Rogers talked about his senior starting QB and what impresses him the most about Brown.
“First is his leadership,” Rogers said. “Sam is a dynamic leader both by example and vocally, which is huge at the quarterback position. He has good arm strength and throws a very accurate ball.”
Rogers said Brown’s play this year is a big reason why the team is doing as well as it is.
“Sam is making great decisions with the ball, and he has been a huge part of our success,” Rogers added.
Thomas County Central athletic director Philip Duplantis had this to say about Brown: “I could not be happier that Sam Brown has been recognized as the ITG Athlete of the Month. He is the perfect representative for this honor. Sam is not only a great football player, but is a great human being also.”
Congratulations to Samuel Brown, our ITG Next Georgia Male Athlete of the Month for October 2022, presented by Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance.
