This Year’s Georgia High School Football Playoffs Could Provide Must See Matchups

As the 2025 Georgia High School football regular season winds down, and playoff seeds become a little more in focus, there could be some very good matchups awaiting fans in this year’s Georgia High School Football Playoffs.

There are still many playoff scenarios out there to be decided, but, just for fun, let’s look at some of the potential top playoff matchups that could happen.

We take a look at the potential matchups in Class 5A and 6A

Class 6A Quarterfinals

McEachern vs Lowndes

Both the Vikings and Indians are undefeated, and in this scenario would enter the playoffs as #1 seeds, and after winning their first two playoff games, they could meet in the 3rd round as two undefeated teams.

Douglas County vs Buford

A potential rematch of the teams regular season matchup earlier this season, a game that saw Buford jump out to a big lead early and withstand a furious comeback by the Tigers.

Class 6A Semi Finals

Lowndes vs Buford

A possible rematch of last year’s round 2 playoff game, which turned out to be a Buford Blowout. Lowndes is a better team this season, and would love to get another shot at Buford in this year’s Georgia High School Football Playoffs.

North Gwinnett vs Grayson

This matchup could be the opposite side of the Class 6A Semi finals, and the Bulldogs could be the last team standing in the way of Grayson returning to the state championship game.

McEachern vs Buford

If the Indians win their region, they’ll have no easy path to the Class 6A semifinals. They could likely face Norcross or Lowndes. If they can get past either the VIkings or the Blue Devils, Coach Kareem Reid’s team would likely face off against the Buford Wolves in the semifinals.

Class 6A State Finals

Grayson vs Buford

These two teams will be on opposite sides of the bracket

With respect to every other team in Class 6A, this one would be tough to top as the ultimate dream matchup.

To most fans, these two teams are probably considered the toast of the state in Class 6A.

It’s a game we’d love to see in a scrimmage game, a 7 v 7, or in the regular season.

But, when you’re talking about playing for all the marbles.

Class 5A

In the Class 5A 2025 Georgia High School Football Playoffs, there’s a lot of

“If’s” before we really know who will play who and in what round.

But again, for the sake of having a little fun, lets look at some playoff possibilities:

 Class 5A 2nd Round

Lee County at Hughes

TCC at Rome

Assuming  Thomas County Central wins the region, Houston County gets the #2 seed, followed by Lee County at #3 and Coffee at #4,  we’d be looking at a possible second round matchup of Lee County at Hughes. One of the best early round matchups of anywhere in the state.

If Houston County wins region 2-5A, and TCC gets the #2 seed, that would likely produce yet another TCC at Rome second round playoff game for the second straight season, and a third straight playoff meeting between the two teams at Barron Stadium in Rome

Class 5A Quarterfinals

Gainesville vs Hughes

The quarterfinals in 5A could provide us with a rematch of the 2022 Class 6A state championship if Gainesville enters the playoffs as the #2 seed from region 7-5A and Hughes wins their region 3-5A.

Class 5A Semi Finals

TCC vs Milton

Houston County vs Roswell

Gainesville vs Hughes

If TCC wins their region, they will have one of the easier paths to the Class 5A semifinals, where they could meet up against Milton, if the Eagles win their Region 7-5A

If Houston County wins Region 2-5A, and Roswell wins Region 7-5A, it would pair the Bears and the Hornets against each other in the semis.

If Gainesville falls to the #3 seed from Region 7-5A, they could still make their way through the bracket to meet Hughes in the semifinals

Class 5A Finals

Houston County vs Hughes

Milton vs Hughes

TCC vs Hughes

If I could predict the most likely outcome from Class 5A, it would be that Hughes makes it to the Class 5A state finals

Who they play there could be any one of the three matchups, simply based on predicted matchups and outcomes.

Any one of these games would be entertaining.

But, trying to predict this year’s 2025 Georgia High School Football Playoffs is like filling out your Men’s NCAA Tournament brackets each year.

And, like College Basketball’s ‘Big Dance’, this tournament is sure to be full of surprises.
