T.R. Miller High School Softball Player Meg Fountain Voted 2024 ITG Next Alabama Female Athlete of the Year
T.R. Miller High School softball player Meg Fountain has been voted the 2024 ITG Next Alabama Female Athlete of the Year as a result of her stellar junior season.
To receive the honor, Fountain amassed 52.44% of the possible votes from a group that included three additional finalists: Gerritt Griggs, who plays basketball, flag football, and softball for Central-Phenix City; Katelyn St. Clair, who plays basketball, softball, and volleyball for Sand Rock; and Reese Cauley, who plays softball for Opp.
As for Fountain, it’s hard to find a better overall offensive season than what the junior did for the 2024 T.R. Miller Lady Tigers on the softball field.
Overall the Lady Tigers finished the 2024 season with a 35-14 record, while also outscoring opponents a combined 388-196. T.R. Miller finished as the runner-up in the Class 4A-Area 2 tournament and came within one win of making the Class 4A state tournament during their deep run in the Class 4A South Regional.
Across 42 games this past season, Fountain was a major factor offensively as she slashed .516/.566/1.214 at the plate with 24 home runs and 77 RBIs, ranking among the state’s leaders in both statistical categories. Fountain’s slash line also translated to a combined 1.780 OPS, while she also added six doubles, five triples, seven stolen bases, and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 9-to-14 for the season.
When taking a deeper look at Fountain’s 2024 season as well, it only becomes clearer just how special her spring at T.R. Miller really was.
Fountain had at least one hit in all but five games and had 23 multi-hit games during the 2024 season. She had three games with two home runs and 23 matchups with at least two RBIs, headlined by a season-high of five RBIs against Jackson on April 29 and against Montgomery Catholic on May 6.
Some of Fountain’s other top games came against Jackson and Robertsdale, in which she had two home runs and three RBIs each. In a 12-4 win over Maplesville on April 20, she went 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBIs. Fountain had a memorable game on April 16, in which she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored in a 12-2 win over Jay (Florida).
A player who will now enter her senior season in 2025 cemented as one of Alabama high school softball’s top players, congratulations once again to T.R. Miller High School softball player Meg Fountain, the 2024 ITG Next Alabama Female Athlete of the Year.
