St. Johns Country Day Football 2022 Team Preview

We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 St. Johns Country Day football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.

2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 1-9
  • Points Scored: 53
  • Points Allowed: 402

Key Losses

The Spartans lost only a few notable names from a year ago, headlined by two-way player Josiah Jones. Jones saw time in both the rushing and receiving game for the Spartans, but he might actually be missed most on the defensive side, as he was one of St. Johns Country Day’s top tacklers, averaging more than six per game. The Spartans also lost a key lineman to graduation in Ethan Beauvais.

Who’s Back

St. Johns Country Day returns some key contributors, many of whom play on both sides of the ball. Headlining this group offensively is the running back duo of George Friedline and Owen Johnston, as well as the rising sophomore quarterback duo of Andrew Staten and Shane Reaves.

Defensively, the biggest returning name is probably Caleb Cameron, who led the Spartans in tackles a year ago. Jack Mooneyham is also expected to be one of St. Johns Country Day’s top tacklers again. Thomas Pounds will likely play a key role up front, and Trey Dubnansky and Corbin Scott are other names to know on defense.

What to Expect

With a vast majority of its production returning from a year ago, this could be the most talented team St. Johns Country Day since Coach Rocky Bantag was hired in 2020. Led by a strong senior class, the Spartans are poised for a season that could see a higher win total than a year ago. Overall, expect strong seasons from names such as Friedline and Johnston again, and for the Spartans to win more games in 2022 than they did in 2021.

Prediction

St. Johns Country Day will win more games in 2022 than last season.
