St. Johns Country Day Basketball Player Taliah Scott Voted ITG Next Florida Female Athlete of the Month
The 2021-22 Florida High School Girls Basketball season has seen some special performances throughout the year from names such as Tampa Prep’s Arianna Mosley, All Saints’ Academy’s Sara Williams, and more. While there are also other names alongside those two that you could certainly make an argument have had the best overall season, that argument is likely led however by St. Johns Country Day’s Taliah Scott.
An impactful scorer for the Spartans, the Arkansas commit has enjoyed a phenomenal junior season so far, and has helped position St. Johns Country Day to make a run in the upcoming Class 2A state playoffs. While Scott’s season overall has been phenomenal, her month of January in particular was truly special, earning the junior guard ITG Next Florida Female Athlete of the Month honors receiving 78.13 percent of the votes.
Having posted multiple impressive performances across the course of the season, Scott continued to add to that seemingly long list during the month of January. As for which performances you could argue stick out from that stretch, the 50-point showing against Ridgeview comes to mind, as well as back-to-back 41 point games against San Jose Prep and Hilliard.
When asked about what makes Scott such a talented player offensively, St. Johns Country Day girls basketball head coach Yolanda Bronston responded, “Taliah has worked hard since she was eight-years-old to build a strong foundation of fundamental skills and never stops working on her game. She is addicted to the details. Her basketball IQ is literally next level and her court vision is elite. She has such an expansive arsenal of offensive skills that make her a threat anywhere she is on the floor…whether she has the ball in her hands or not. When Taliah is on the floor all five defenders have to be alert at all times.”
Averaging over 30 points per game for the season as one of the top scorers in the state of Florida, Scott’s phenomenal 2021-22 season did not just come out of nowhere. In fact, due to her work ethic both on-and-off the court, this type of season was bound to happen.
“Taliah Scott is a competitor on and off the court,” Bronston stated. “She works to be the best in everything that she does. Taliah has a high level of confidence to match her elite skill set. She knows that her family, teammates, coaches, and the St. Johns Country Day School community are all supporting her and that allows her to just go out and play her game every night. When you have her level of skill combined with confidence and support….that is a recipe for greatness.”
As St. Johns Country Day enters the week with sights set on a Class 2A state championship as the state tournament begins, there is no denying the impact that Scott has had, and continues to have on this team this season.
“Taliah has the ability to make everyone around her want to be better players,” Bronston said. “From the first day she stepped on the court with us, the level of play and determination in each of her teammates has elevated. Our team has confidence in her leadership on the court. Her desire to win and be the best is infectious.”
A special 2021-22 season that was continued with a phenomenal month of January, congrats to St. Johns County Day’s Taliah Scott, our ITG Next Florida Female Athlete of the Month.
