St. John Lutheran Volleyball Player Rylee Palmateer Named Florida Female Athlete of the Month

A sophomore who has shined on the volleyball court so far this season, St. John Lutheran School’s Rylee Palmateer has been voted our ITG Next Florida Female Athlete of the Month for September 2022. Palmateer received 45.99% of the votes.

In what has been a strong season up to this point for the St. John Lutheran program, Palmateer’s impact on the Saints success so far is no secret. If you were to need an example of this, well, the stats simply speak for themselves.

Across 43 sets played up to this point, the sophomore has compiled 168 kills combined, which translates to a kill percentage of 42.1%, as well as an average of 3.9 kills per set. Palmateer has made an impact in other areas as well, with other numbers such as 25 serving aces and 85 digs sticking out.

Palmateer began her 2022 season on an impressive note, compiling 89 kills, 14 aces, and 52 digs across 22 sets, only one of which the Saints dropped, in the month of August.

While the numbers are certainly great, Palmateer’s impact on the Saints’ success goes much further than just stats, according to St. John Lutheran head volleyball coach Brad Ewers.

“Rylee is one of our leading attackers, so that has been a huge part of our success,” Ewers said of Palmateer. “In addition, Rylee is outstanding as a passer, defender, and a blocker and is able to excel at these skills from multiple positions. Rylee’s willingness to play from different positions around the court helps to put her teammates in positions to be successful and has a tremendous impact on our team’s success in ways that do not show up in Rylee’s stats.

“In addition to being an excellent defender and passer, Rylee is a very dynamic attacker. Rylee is able to attack from anywhere on the court and create different angles that you rarely see in other players.”

As a sophomore, Palmateer is a player who will only continue to get better from here on.  According to Ewers, the sky could be the limit for St. John Lutheran’s young star.

“Rylee has a high volleyball IQ for someone so young, yet with her work ethic, I expect that to continue to improve,” Ewers said. “As a coach, I can discuss strategy with her as if she was a senior and have that senior-like presence on the court for two more seasons.”

A sophomore who will look to continue her impressive 2022 season going forward, congratulations to St. John Lutheran’s Rylee Palmateer, our ITG Next Florida Female Athlete of the Month for September 2022.
