Reflecting over last year’s season which was disappointing by not making the playoffs, Head Coach Paul Tisa realizes that it is the small things that made a difference. Going into this season his plans include preparing his players better physically and mentally. “We lost several games in the 4th quarter and I don’t plan on letting that happen to us this year”. Coach Tisa is assuming responsibility and will take over as the offensive coordinator as well this season. The Seahawks will have a new defensive coordinator as well with Correlle Banjoman taking over the reins.
One player that has been a vital cog for the Seahawks and is returning this year is Austin Garofalo. This young man was the leading receiver last year on top of starting at cornerback and serving as the placekicker. South Walton returns 5 players on each side of the ball, but 3 of these Garofalo, Jireh Crittenden, and Ben Balfanz play both ways. Balancing playing time and trying to keep the best players on the field will be a big part of Coach Tisa and his staff finding success in the 4th quarter.
The “Battle of the Bay” versus Freeport High School is THE matchup those in this part of Walton County look forward to. The 2 schools are only separated by a few miles and Choctawhatchee Bay, straight down Highway 331 from each other. This game is a matter of pride for these communities.
