Shawn Sutton Resigns as Pelham Football Head Coach

In a surprise announcement made earlier today by Pelham City Schools Superintendent Floyd Fort, Pelham football head coach and athletic director Shawn Sutton has resigned.

Sutton had been on the job for just under two weeks when the announcement of his resignation came. He was recently hired to replace coach Dondrial Pinkins, who left to take the same position at his alma mater, Mitchell County High School. Sutton’s hiring was announced on March 30 following the regular monthly meeting of the Pelham City Schools Board of Education.

Floyd’s statement read, in part, that Sutton had stepped down “due to unforeseen circumstances” and that “this is an unfortunate situation.” Fort’s statement concluded with, “I am committed to employing the very best candidate available for the position.”

ITG Next will continue to monitor this story and will bring you updates on Pelham’s search for a new head football coach.
