Road Warriors: Round 2 AAAAAA Playoffs

With an exciting first round of Georgia 6A high school football in the books, it’s time we separate the contenders from the pretenders in round two. South Georgia prevailed victorious in their battle with Cobb. Colquitt and Camden opened up with convincing home victories over North Paulding and Hillgrove, respectively, while Valdosta edged out North Cobb in a close one. Unfortunately, we must say goodbye to the Lowndes Vikings as McEachern cruised past them to a 34-11 victory.

The road to a championship goes through Moultrie so Colquitt County does not have to leave their friendly confines to get to the Dome. On the other hand, Camden County and Valdosta must embrace that underdog spirt and go out on the road and take what they want. It is not at an easy challenge, but this Friday we will find out what these boys are made of. Will they quit, or can they show that they are truly road warriors.

After a perfect 4-0 start last week, I look to continue with the hot hand with my second round predictions. Do you agree or disagree? Let your voice be heard on Facebook, and remember Stay In the Game!

Second Round Predictions

Central Gwinnett at Colquitt County

After dismantling the North Paulding Wolfpack last week, Colquitt welcomes the Central Gwinnett Black Knights to Moultrie. Central Gwinnett is definitely carrying some momentum after defeating the Walton Raiders. However, traveling across town to beat a slightly above average opponent isn’t the same as traveling 4 hours to dethrone the defending state champs. As long as they don’t look ahead, I expect the Packers to roll big, again. Colquitt 42, Central Gwinnett 17

Camden County at Roswell

Camden County was able to make quick work of Hillgrove and now focus their sights towards a date with Roswell. The Hornets dominated Parkview in the first round and are one of the stronger teams in 6A. Nonetheless, history may be on Camden’s side. Their last three trips to the Atlanta area have all produced victories, including back-to-back state titles in 2008 & 2009. I expect a motivated performance from the Wildcats this week and they will leave Roswell with a win. Camden County 27, Roswell 24

Valdosta at Grayson

Valdosta just doesn’t quit. They outlasted North Cobb on the road for a thrilling 21-16 victory and showed they have the determination to squeak out victories and that’s all that matters in the playoffs. The Wildcats will need to carry that same motivation if they have any shot of upsetting the #2 Grayson Rams. Controlling the clock and minimizing mistakes will also be very important keys for victory. With all that said, I still expect Grayson to win comfortably and squash any title dreams Valdosta has left. Grayson 45, Valdosta 10
