2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 10-2
  • Points Scored: 376
  • Points Allowed: 148

Key Losses

Undoubtedly the biggest loss from the Generals’ 2021 squad is five-star cornerback Jaheim Singletary, who made an impact on both sides of the ball for Riverside. Also on defense, Masiah Wells is a significant loss after leading the Generals in sacks, along with others such as Devin Smith, Joseph Morrison, and Bryce Capers.

On offense, Riverside loses several key names, headlined by the quarterback duo of Cale Zarah and Daniel Plummer, along with running back Alvin Gibson, who rushed for 17 touchdowns last season. Dayon Rawls is also a key loss in the running game, while leading receivers Freddie Manning and Rickie Shaw have to be replaced as well.

Who’s Back

Arguably the biggest returning names for Riverside come on defense in the pass rushing duo of De’Avery Weeks and Zaire Moody, who combined for 15 sacks a year ago. Linebackers Lawrence Neloms and Jamari Allen are also key returning names for the Generals’ defense, while Zion Pittman and Ethan Tookes both could play significant roles in the Riverside secondary.

On offense the biggest returnee is running back Charles Jones-Burroughs, a rising senior who is poised for a big 2022 season. Devin Herring is the biggest returnee at wide receiver, while Patrick Cooper could also be set for a big senior campaign.

What to Expect

Coming off a strong 2021 season, the Generals now enter year one under new head coach Antwan Nicholas, who takes over for longtime Riverside coach OJ Small. The Generals have a talented team entering the new season; one could even argue they’re the top preseason team in 2M-District 3.

Overall, expect yet another strong Generals defense in 2022, and for Riverside to make another playoff appearance. How deep that playoff run goes depends on how well they’ll be able to replace some of their key losses on the offensive side of the ball.

Prediction

Riverside will win eight games this season, and make a playoff appearance.
