Region 1-6A Championship Preview: Camden vs Colquitt

In the Final Game of the Season, Winner Takes All

Colquitt County Packers (9-0, 4-0) vs. Camden County Wildcats (9-0, 4-0)

Friday, November 6, 2015
8:00 p.m.

Venue
Chris Gilman Stadium
Kingland, Ga.

The stage has been set.  In what is arguably the most anticipated contest in Region 1-AAAAAA this year, the Colquitt County Packers will travel to Kingsland to take on the Camden County Wildcats.

Both teams are coming into Friday with unblemished records.  Last week, the Packers defeated the Tift County Blue Devils, 41-33, while Camden County went to Leesburg and posted a 17-13 victory over Lee County.

This game puts it all on the line.  While both teams have secured spots in the 2015 GHSA State Playoffs, Friday’s game will determine the champion of Region 1-AAAAAA.  The winner takes the title; the loser will go into the postseason as the second seed from the region.

Colquitt County also has the opportunity to etch their names in the record books for another reason.  Should the Packers win, they will complete a run of back-to-back undefeated regular seasons.  Of the teams currently in Region 1-AAAAAA, the last to accomplish this feat was the Valdosta Wildcats, who went undefeated from 1960-62. (Also, Valdosta did not lose a game during the 1968 or 1969 regular seasons; they did, however, record a tie in the 1969 state championship game against Athens High School.)

If Camden is victorious, the team would leave its own mark on history.  Last season, the Wildcats finished at .500 (5-5).  The last team to go from .500 to a perfect record in consecutive years was Colquitt County in 1993-94 (the Packers would go on to win their first state championship in 1994).

Either way, we are sure to have an exciting matchup within the confines of Chris Gilman Stadium on Friday night.  Who will come out as the region champion?
