Pirates Are Looking For Their Own Treasure This Season

With head Coach John Pate coming into his second season of the Pirates means higher expectations this upcoming season. Pate tells In the Game Sports Network that there isn’t one team this year on their schedule he feels his team cannot beat.

Pate also talks about his strong group of upperclassmen this season. Walker Bean is a two way star at tight end and defensive end. The 6’4” 240 pound star had 360 yards receiving and 58 tackles and eight sacks last season. Fernandina Beach also has a lot of good 9th grade players which makes Pate excited about the future of his team as well.

Some key games the Pirates are marking on their calendar this year are Yulee, who is their big rival, and West Nassau. Yulee is their neighboring school and they lose some of the good players to them because of zoning. Pate, like all coaches, is excited about the new playoff rule. He believes it will give his team a chance to get their feet wet in the playoffs now.

Pate, after his second year, is making strides to put Fernandina Beach on the map again as a football program and not just a school with a beach mentality.
