Pike Road High School Basketball Player Jayden Cooper Named ITG Next Alabama Male Athlete of the Month for January 2023
Pike Road basketball player Jayden Cooper has been voted the ITG Next Alabama January 2023 Male Athlete of the Month as a result of his play during December. He received 34.66% of the possible votes.
A senior for the Patriots, Cooper shined on the court last month, averaging 24.7 PPG in 10 games, along with 7.1 RPG, 2.8 SPG, and 1.5 BPG. During that span, the Patriots went 8-2 and Cooper posted eight 20+ point games and four double-doubles.
The biggest of those games likely was the first one, a 69-49 win over Greenville on December 3, with Cooper recording a double-double of 28 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. Cooper’s highest scoring output during the month came a few weeks later on December 28 in a 56-47 win against Colquitt County (GA), with the senior pouring in 34 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field, as well as 4-of-7 from three-point range.
In fact, Cooper has had a number of similar performances to those this season, making him one of the state’s top scorers as February approaches. For the year, Cooper has averaged 24.1 PPG in 22 games, along with 7.6 RPG, 1.3 APG, 2.4 SPG, and 1.2 BPG. He’s shooting 56% from the field and 37% from three-point range, both of which are higher than his totals from last year, when he averaged 18.4 PPG.
