Opp High School Softball Player Reese Cauley Named ITG Next Alabama Female Athlete of the Month for April 2024
After posting about as impressive a month as you’ll find during March, Opp High School softball player Reese Cauley has been voted the ITG Next Alabama Female Athlete of the Month for April 2024 by receiving 34.77% of possible votes. This came over three additional finalists, which were Austin softball player Abby Lindsey, Munford softball player Emma Gaither, and Carver-Birmingham soccer player Tamia Motley.
Cauley, a senior, has simply been a major factor in the success of Class 3A’s Opp, who is among the top teams in the classification and currently sits at No. 12 in our consensus Alabama high school softball Top 25 rankings.
For the year, Cauley, a two-way star, is slashing .495/.558/.835 across 33 games for the Lady Bobcats with six home runs, 32 RBIs, and one base stolen. Offensively, Cauley has nine doubles and two triples on the season and has only struck out a combined three times compared to drawing 12 walks.
As special as her offensive numbers are, Cauley’s impact has arguably been felt most in the circle, where she owns a 17-3 record with a 0.28 ERA and a stellar strikeout-to-walk ratio of 200-to-10 across 99 innings pitched. Cauley is also holding opponents to a combined .062 batting average against and has 10 complete games, six shutouts, five no-hitters, three perfect games, and one save.
Taking a deeper look at her season, a majority of Cauley’s production came during March, when she was a major factor in a stretch that saw Opp go 13-1 overall.
Offensively, Cauley posted a combined .524 batting average (22 for 42) with two home runs, one triple, four doubles, and 12 RBIs. Of those 14 games, Cauley also had at least one hit in 12, as well as seven multi-hit games.
Cauley’s month is likely remembered most for her performance in the circle, however, where she allowed only two earned runs across 40 innings pitched. Cauley also posted a phenomenal strikeout-to-walk ratio of 83-to-5 during that span, with Opp losing only one of her pitching appearances.
