On June 9th the International Olympic Committee increased the number of woman’s events and participants for the 2020 Tokyo Games. The events that have been changed include, canoeing, boxing, judo, rowing, sailing and shooting. This decision has impacted many athletes’ lives because adding these woman’s events, also mean’t dropping several men’s events. This is give-and-take scenario is drastically evident in canoeing. There will be 55 fewer men in canoe and kayak events in the Tokyo Games than in the 2016 Rio Games. However, there will be equal number of men and woman competing. While this has been a debated topic, one thing is for sure, this will certainly open up more doors for young woman to compete in the Olympics.
