We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Oakleaf football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.
2021 Stats
- Overall Record: 4-6
- Points Scored: 306
- Points Allowed: 364
Key Losses
While Oakleaf returns a notable amount of production, the Knights must replace some key contributors, headlined by defensive back Dylan Stubbs. One of the Knights’ leading tacklers a year ago, Stubbs will certainly be missed on this Oakleaf defense, as will another defensive back in Jaedon Stokes.
Offensively, the Knights have to replace two of their top three wide receivers in Honrae Murray and Ar’mon Cooper, as well as running back Michael Brannon. The latter was one of several Oakleaf backs to receive a significant number of carries a year ago, while Murray and Cooper each recorded over 25 catches.
Who’s Back
The Knights return a significant amount of defensive talent, led by names such as Vladimir Rosa, Dajon Brown, and Drake Stubbs. Jaden Atteo and Amare Thomas also will be key players for the Oakleaf defense, along with Nasir Bailey, Dacarris Jacobs and Takoda Brown.
On the offensive side, the quarterback/wide receiver duo of Drew Ammon and Taylor Bradshaw returns, along with a deep running back group running behind an offensive line that features three-star Kyland Armstrong. Headlining that group is the rising senior duo of Isaiah Shevchook and Devin Outlaw, along with Carlos Witherup coming off a strong freshman season.
What to Expect
Oakleaf started last season 4-2, but then dropped its final four games to finish 4-6. The Knights scored more than 30 points in each of those contests, but struggled defensively, as they did at other times throughout the season as well.
With an extra year of experience for some of those defensive players, Oakleaf should be improved against opposing offenses. With what should be a strong offense of their own again, the Knights have all the makings of a bounceback season in 2022.
Prediction
Oakleaf will win six games this season and be in contention for a playoff spot.
