NFL Legends Taking the High School Coaching Helm
Recently retired Cowboys tight end Jason Witten and Chargers/Colts quarterback Philip Rivers didn’t have to wait long after their retirement to find a new gig.
Witten retired for the second time and took a job at Liberty Christian in Argyle, Texas, which is 30 miles from the Dallas Cowboys’ headquarters, whom he made a career with.
The All-Pro and 11-time Pro Bowler will have his work cut out for him, taking over a Warriors team that went 2-7 in the 2020 season.
The last time the Warriors had a winning record was in the 2018-19 season when they went 8-5 and fell a game short of Texas Division TAPPS I state title game when they lost to Bishop Lynch with a score of 65-45.
They most recently won the championship in the 2007-2008 season when they went 12-1 and beat Dallas Christian 28-7 for the title.
Witten will now have full responsibility to get his new team back to that level of play.
Philip Rivers was hired on at St. Michael Catholic in his home state in Alabama back in May 2020 before his final season.
It was still uncertain if the if the 8-time Pro Bowler and fifth person in NFL passing yards and touchdowns in league history would retire.
But he did after the Colts would fall in the Wild Card to the Bills.
Rivers will be given a team that’s new to football with the Cardinals going 2-8 in 2020, as it was their third year of football at the school.
The two freshly retired players will go into this new venture with hopes of having the success that they had during their playing careers.
One is able to get his team back to glory while the other have been handed the keys to build up a new football program.
Best wishes to both highly rewarded players in their next chapter of life.
