Milton High School Lacrosse Player Maeve Simonds Voted ITG Next Georgia Female Athlete of the Month for April 2023
Milton High School senior lacrosse player Maeve Simonds has been named the April 2023 ITG Next Georgia Female Athlete of the Month, presented by Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance. Simonds received the most votes among four candidates to receive the honor.
Simonds is in her fourth and final season as a key part of the Milton Lady Eagles lacrosse team. She has helped her team to 14 wins through the first 16 games. She is a midfielder for coach Tim Godby, who says Simonds has been a big reason for the team’s last two state championships.
“Maeve is a great all-around player, and has been that for the past four years,” Godby said.
Simonds was selected as a U.S. Lacrosse All American last season, and she is having another season worthy of that kind of recognition. Simonds and her Milton teammates recently battled some of the nation’s toughest lacrosse programs, including IMG Academy; the Lady Huskies of Hagerty High in Orlando; Connelly School of the Holy Child and Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, both from Maryland; and the Paul Vl Panthers of Chantilly, Virginia
In a 10-game stretch, Simonds showed why she is considered one of the state’s top lacrosse players. Godby said she scored 35 goals and averaged 7 draw controls, earning her a spot among our nominees for the Female Athlete of the Month award.
“Maeve has been a big reason for our success here at Milton,” Godby said. “She was a big part of our last two championship teams.”
The Lady Eagles have won the last two Class 6A/7A lacrosse state titles.
In addition to being a member of the Milton High lacrosse team, Simonds is also a member of the local Eagle Stix Lacrosse Club Blue team, which is ranked ninth nationally, according to U.S. Club Lacrosse.
In addition to Simonds’ 2022 selection as an All American, her other honors include being named an Under Armour All American as a rising freshman; an Under Armour 150 selection in 2020; several top-five rankings, including second in the 5-10-5 shuttle, second place for fastest shot, and fifth place in the 200-yard shuttle. She was the only player in any age group to place in the top seven in all speed/agility/shooting events in the UA 150.
Simonds will continue her lacrosse career as a member of the Ohio State University Buckeye lacrosse team. She committed to Ohio State in 2021. Before she heads off to play D-1 lacrosse, she’ll continue to help Milton chase its third straight state championship.
“We rely on Maeve’s ability to get possession on draws, she plays great defense, and she is one of our leading scorers,” Godby said.
Congratulations to Maeve Simonds, the April 2023 ITG Next Georgia Female Athlete of the Month, presented by Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance.
