Marco Island Academy Volleyball Player Medney Garraux Named ITG Next Florida Female Athlete of the Month for October 2024
Selected over a list of three additional finalists, Marco Island Academy volleyball player Medney Garraux has been voted the ITG Next Florida Female Athlete of the Month for October 2024, which comes as a result of her play during September.
Garraux received 66.67% of possible votes to receive the honor, coming over Lake Highland Prep cross country runner Annabella Tomasic, Cardinal Newman volleyball player Ava Castro, and Lakeland Christian cross country runner Emma Wilkinson.
As to why she received the honor, you will simply be hard pressed to find a better month than what Garraux posted on the court for the Marco Island Academy Lady Rays.
In September, Garraux helped lead the Lady Rays to a combined record of 6-5 while posting an impressive combined stat line of 237 kills, 18 aces, 12 blocks, 125 digs, five assists, and 96 returns.
Included in that stretch was a season high of 39 kills in a win over Naples on Sept. 9, plus six games with 20 or more kills.
Garraux has showcased this level of impressive play throughout the 2024 season for Marco Island Academy, leading the Lady Rays to an overall record of 14-8 at the time of writing.
Garraux currently ranks among the state’s leaders in kills across her 66 sets played and owns a combined stat line of 486 kills, 39 aces, 17 blocks, 241 digs, 11 assists, and 208 returns. She also owns season averages of 7.4 kills per set and a kill percentage of 48%, which are both impressive in their own right.
