KeShawn Murphy Wild Dunk Creates Scary Moment

KeShawn Murphy Wild Dunk Creates Scary Moment

Shaquille O’Neal is well-known for his backboard-shattering dunks during his playing days in college at LSU and the National Basketball Association. KeShawn Murphy might have the legendary O’Neal beat with a story of his own dunk from a game on Jan. 22.

The Ramsay High School (Birmingham, Alabama.) power forward and Mississippi State University commit unintentionally caused a scary moment in the Ramsay vs. Carver game Friday night.

After catching the ball and throwing down the two-handed alley-oop and highlight reel-worthy dunk, the entire basketball goal suddenly broke loose and swung down onto the court, causing players to scatter into multiple different directions.

Fortunately, players and coaches were able to narrowly escape the goal, and no one was hurt in the incident.

Play was halted with four minutes left in the contest, and Ramsay leading by a score of 61-44.

According to the Ramsay Basketball Twitter account, the game could not be completed and will resume as the latter game in a double-header on Jan. 28.

“When I dunked, I swung back and forth and saw that the goal was going down with me,” Murphy said to AL.com. “I had no idea that the goal broke in front of me. It was wild.”

The crazy moment was recorded by a fan in the stands, and made it all the way to the official Twitter accounts of SportsCenter and Bleacher Report.

The 6-foot-10 player responded to the viral video with some playful smile and heart emojis on his own Twitter account.

“After I saw that nobody got hurt, we were running up and down and celebrating on the

sideline,” Murphy continued. “We were having the time of our life.”

Murphy has been committed to play for the Bulldogs since Nov. 2020, and is the No. 3 rated

recruit in the state of Alabama.

According to 247Sports, he is the No. 147 prospect nationally in the class of 2021. He was also offered by the University of Alabama Birmingham, Western Kentucky, Auburn and Alabama.

The Ramsay Rams are currently the No. 1 ranked boys’ team in Class 5A.

With only four regular season games to go, the Rams are undefeated in league play and possess an 19-7 overall record.

As postseason basketball draws near, it seems as though there will be plenty of opportunities for Murphy to throw down even more viral dunks.

Hopefully, the basketball goal will stay intact for all of those.
