Moody High School Football Player Cole McCarty Named ITG Next Alabama Male Athlete of the Month for October 2022
Starting at quarterback for a Blue Devils team that entered the week at 8-1 overall, Moody senior Cole McCarty has been voted our ITG Next Alabama Male Athlete of the Month for his play during September, receiving 34.38% of the votes.
After finishing with a 6-4 overall record a year ago, the Moody Blue Devils have been one of the top teams in Class 5A this season, with their offense a big reason why. Averaging 45 points per game, the Blue Devils have continued to impress week-in and week-out, with names such as McCarty, Blaine Burke, Davion Dozier, and Kolby Seymour leading the way.
McCarty has had a huge impact on the Blue Devils’ success. His stat line reveals 2,177 yards passing, a 75% completion rate and a 32:3 TD:INT ratio in the first eight games of the season. September was a memorable month for him, beginning with his performance in a 42-27 win over Alexandria: 14-of-19 passing for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns. McCarty maintained his hot hand the next week, completing 14-of-17 passes for 202 yards and 4 TDs in a 62-7 win over Cleburne County.
He followed that up with a 339-yard, 5-touchdown performance in a 32-6 win over Lincoln, then finished the month with back-to-back 270-yard+ outings in wins over Shelby County and Springville, along with 4 touchdown passes in each.
For the month of September overall, McCarty led the Blue Devils to a 5-0 record while throwing for 1,368 yards with a 19:1 TD:INT ratio. During that span, he also rushed for 141 yards on 19 attempts.
Congratulations to Moody quarterback Cole McCarty, our ITG Next Alabama Male Athlete of the Month.
