On Saturday, September 19, former Wayne County (Jesup, Ga.) and In the Game featured athlete Greyson Lambert put the SEC, as well as the rest of the college football world, on notice.
In dominating fashion, he led the still-undefeated University of Georgia (3-0, 2-0 in SEC) to a 52-20 win over conference rival South Carolina. In the process, he racked up a career-high 330 yards and three touchdowns.
His outstanding performance did not go unnoticed. He was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the College Football Performance Award’s National Player of the Week, and received recognition as one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week.
He connected with nine different receivers during his onslaught, and the team’s 52-point performance was the most that Georgia has ever scored against a team coached by Steve Spurrier. He completed 20 passes in a row, which broke the UGA record of 19 (set in 1998 by Mike Bobo). He also turned in a 96 percent completion rate, an NCAA record, finding success on 24 of 25 attempts.
Aiding in the effort was fellow ITG standout Malcolm Mitchell. Mitchell shredded the Gamecocks’ defense en route to eight receptions totaling 122 yards. He also recorded a touchdown during the blowout. Former Valdosta High star, tight end Jay Rome, added a 20-yard reception that set up a touchdown run by Nick Chubb. 2013 Valwood graduate Aulden Bynum, another ITG alum, made his presence felt on the offensive line as well.
Everyone at In the Game Magazine is proud of the effort of these young men!
