Now that National Signing Day is behind us (well, both of them, really), everyone who follows high school football gets to turn their focus to the other “biggest topic” this time of year. Which coaches fill which spots in the state
of Georgia.
Traditionally, around 18-percent of the 400-plus schools are looking for new head coaches yearly. We did have one year where there were close to 100 openings that needed to be filled.
There have been some new replacements named, but two stick out and they’re both in south Georgia. When Lowndes head coach Randy McPherson retired after almost two decades in charge of the program at “The Concrete Palace,” that job instantly became one of the most sought after in any state.
