With the 2023 Georgia Class 7A playoffs approaching fast, several teams are making late pushes to secure home field advantage and region championships. We break down postseason scenarios, sorted by region, for 7A teams with two weeks left in the regular season.
Region 1
A region champion will be decided when Valdosta meets Colquitt County this weekend, with the loser clinching the No. 2 seed. Camden County can secure the third seed with a win over Lowndes. In this scenario, the winner of Lowndes and Richmond Hill will clinch the last spot in the Georgia Class 7A playoffs. A three-way tie could occur if Richmond Hill defeats Lowndes and the Vikings defeat Camden County.
Region 2
Carrollton will very likely win this region, but a victory over Campbell will make it official. The victor of Westlake-East Coweta will earn the second seed (with the loser clinching third), barring a major upset in the final week. Campbell appears to be locked into the fourth seed, with Pebblebrook on the brink of elimination.
Region 3
McEachern has won the region. For the four remaining teams, several scenarios remain. These situations will become more clear after this weekend’s games are played.
Region 4
Surprisingly, Archer sits in first place in this region. The Tigers have already clinched a berth in the Georgia Class 7A playoffs. Parkview’s upset win over Newton has complicated the scenarios for each seed, but it appears that Archer, Newton, Parkview, and Grayson will end as playoff teams. The seeding largely depends on how this Friday’s games play out. Brookwood and South Gwinnett need two consecutive wins to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Region 5
Walton is in the driver’s seat for a region championship. North Cobb will likely end as the second seed, provided they defeat Osborne. Wheeler’s win over Osborne last weekend guarantees them a top-3 seed, and Osborne may slot in fourth. Kennesaw Mountain and Cherokee need two wins to keep playoff hopes alive.
Region 6
Milton or Lambert can clinch the region championship with two straight victories. South Forsyth needs a victory over West Forsyth to force a three-way tie for third place. A Wolverines victory, on the other hand, would secure them the third seed, and Denmark would earn fourth. For all intents and purposes, Forsyth Central has been eliminated.
Region 7
Norcross and Peachtree Ridge could face off for the region championship this Friday, but a three-way tie can be forced if the Blue Devils defeat the Lions and North Gwinnett beats Norcross in the final week. The final spot will be determined by the winner of Meadowcreek and Duluth. Berkmar and Discovery have been eliminated.
Region 8
Mill Creek controls its own destiny in this region. Barring any stunning upsets, Buford will clinch the second seed. Collins Hill can clinch the third seed with victories over Central Gwinnett and Dacula, which leaves Mountain View in the fourth spot after its win against Central Gwinnett last Friday. Facing a slate of Mill Creek and Collins Hill, Dacula has likely been eliminated from Georgia Class 7A playoffs contention.
