One of the nation’s top high school basketball individual honors, Montverde Academy (FL) forward Dariq Whitehead has been named the 2021-22 Naismith High School Player of the Year.
The nation’s No. 5 player according to the 247Sports Composite, Whitehead averaged 17.6 points per game for one of the nation’s top teams, as well as 3.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Also a five-star recruit, the Duke commit is also rated as the No. 1 small forward nationally, as well as the No. 2 player in the state of Florida.
In addition to Whitehead, four others were also selected as finalists for the award – Westtown (PA) center Dereck Lively II, Wilbraham (MA) center Kyle Filipowski, IMG Academy (FL) guard Keyonte George, and North Little Rock (AR) guard Nick Smith.
